Welsummers
These are eggs from my own flock of laying hens. The
Welsummer egg in the top photo is the bottom row,
second from the left.
The Welsummer egg in the bottom photo is the one
between the two olive green eggs. These photos
were taken at the end of a laying season, so the color
of the egg is not nearly as dark as they are early in the
season.
The Welsummer is a beutiful dual purpose breed,
originating from Holland. Welsummers are famous for
the deep reddish brown and sometimes speckled
egg color. Welsummers are good foragers, free-
range very well and mature to about 6-7 pounds.
The plumage of the Welsummer is a nicely
proportioned partridge pattern, with gold
highlights around the neck.
